P24’s Portraits of Peace and K24 nominated for The Bobs

Two websites created and run by P24 have made it to the finals at the online activism awards ‘’The Bobs’’ this year

P24’s cultural critique website K24 and Portraits of Peace, a website dedicated to publishing the biographies of the victims of the October 10 Ankara attack, have been nominated for The Bobs, online activism awards sponsored by Deutsche Welle.
 
Both websites were selected from among 2,300 nominations for The Bobs 2016 along with 123 other finalists.
 
There are 14 language specific categories at The Bobs, and each of them have five nominees. There are also 14 finalists in each of the four separate and multilingual categories of Social Change, Tech for Good, Arts and Culture and Citizen Journalism.
 
The award winners will be decided by public vote, and voting has begun in all The Bobs’ categories. The awards have been given out regularly since 2005.
 
K24 nominated in User Award ‘’Turkish’’
 
P24’s cultural critique website K24, which recently started to make some of its content available to English-language readers, has been nominated in the User Award Turkish category along with four other online activism sites from Turkey.
 
Other nominees in this category are: The Açık Vekil (Open MP) project which demands transparency from members of Parliament, Engelli Web (Disabled Web), which keeps track of banned websites in Turkey under formal court orders, Hasankeyf Girişimi (The Hasankeyf Initiative), documenting activists’ efforts to stop the construction of a dam in the Turkish southeast which threatens to inundate the ancient site of Hasankeyf, and  Nefret Söylemi, a website dedicated to tracking and archiving hate speech in the media.
 
101015ankara.org in ‘’Arts and Culture’’
 
Another The Bobs nominee this year is the 101015ankara.org website, also known as Portraits of Peace, which publishes the biographies of those killed in the October 10, 2015 terrorist attack at a peace rally in the Turkish capital. 101015ankara.org has been nominated as the only site from Turkey in the multi-lingual Arts and Culture category.
 
Another nominee from Turkey this year is Haber Nöbeti (News Watch), a journalism initiative committed to transparent reporting of the ongoing military operations in Turkey’s Kurdish towns and cities. This website has been nominated in the general-language category of Citizen Journalism.
 
How to vote at the Bobs
 
Users need to register and login on thebobs.com in order to vote for their website online activism campaign. The voting will be on throughout April.
 
According to a statement from The Bobs’ website, this year’s Jury Award winners will be invited to a ceremony as part of the Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum on June 14 in Bonn, Germany.
