P24 lawyer Veysel Ok visits incarcerated journalists at Istanbul’s Silivri Prison Complex

 Veysel Ok, attorney-at law and the head of the Legal Unit of the Platform for Independent Journalism (P24) will be visiting Turkish journalists Can Dündar, Erdem Gül, Mehmet Baransu, Cevheri Güven and Murat Çapan, who are under arrest in Silivri Prison over charges regarding their journalistic work.
 
Cumhuriyet daily's Editor-in-Chief and Dündar and Ankara Bureau Chief Erdem Gül were sent to prison over a news story published in Cumhuriyet which suggested that the Turkish Intelligence Agency (MİT) had sent weapons to armed groups in Syria.
 
Editor-in-chief of the Nokta magazine Cevheri Güven and the magazine's Managing Editor Murat Çapan were arrested on November 3 over a cover story of the publication on charges of provoking an armed uprising against the state.
 
Journalist Mehmet Baransu was arrested on March 2 over his stories and book on the Sledgehammer Coup Plan. He faces allegations of disclosing classified information on national security.
 
As of December 7, Baransu has been in prison for 281 days; Cevheri Güven and Murat Çapan for 35 days, and Can Dündar and Erdem Gül for 12 days.
 
The text of a letter to each of the five incarcerated journalists from P24 executives and staff that will be presented by Veysel Ok can be found below. P24 will continue visiting the journalists that are at Silivri and other prisons in the coming weeks.
