Journalist and television presenter Sedef Kabaş was detained early on Tuesday over her critical tweet in which she said, “Don’t forget the name of the judge who dropped the Dec. 17 corruption probe.” Kabaş was later released on probation.
Kabaş’s lawyer Hasan Kılıç told his client had been detained on charges of “targeting people who are involved in anti-terror operations.” Kabaş, in her stament, denied the accusations and said “she had no such intention.”
Police raided Kabaş's home in the Çekmeköy district of Istanbul early on Dec. 30, upon the complaint of the prosecutors and detained her after a search at the house. After being questioned by the police, Kabaş was referred to court and then released on probation. According to the reports in the Turkish media, the case is being examined by the prosecutor and Kabaş will testify on Jan. 5.
