P24 hosted a climate and ecology journalism workshop in Antalya on December 21 and 22. The event focused on equipping journalists with skills and insights to enhance their reporting on climate and ecological issues.

The initial day of the workshop, made possible by the generous support of the UK Embassy’s Bilateral Cooperation Programme, featured Elif Ünal as the trainer. Ünal explained essential concepts related to the climate crisis and presented strategies to combat misinformation while emphasizing the importance of improving climate literacy. Presenting examples from P24’s climate journalism platform, Gezegen, Özgün Özçer highlighted key factors for journalists to consider in their storytelling and how different narrative structures can improve climate and ecology reporting.

The second day of the workshop focused on how journalists can maintain a gender-sensitive perspective and avoid biases related to speciesism in their reporting. Çiçek Tahaoğlu led a session on ensuring equal representation and inclusivity, emphasizing the importance of avoiding anthropocentric viewpoints. Following the presentations, participants engaged in a collaborative hands-on group exercise.

As part of the program, some participants will produce journalistic articles that will be published on P24’s platform, Gezegen. Additionally, the trainers will create a guide based on the workshop discussions, providing practical advice and best practices for the field.

The second workshop is set for February. P24 will provide more details in the coming weeks.
