P24 hits the campaign trail

P24 will be organising coverage of the 10 August Turkish presidential election.
It invites journalists to join its election bus, which will travel to four separate regions of Turkey ahead of the first scheduled poll. The object is to discover how citizens react locally to national events. We will meet with local politicians, journalists, and people in-the-know.

This is a repeat of P24’s municipal election campaign tour.

P24 will organise the trip, including hotels, meals, travel and interview schedule.  (You have to produce your own stories!)

The dates of the journeys are as follows:

Aegean                               / 14 -17 July :     İzmir-Manisa-Denizli (plane+bus)
Eastern Turkey                 / 21-24 July :      Elazığ-Tunceli-Malatya (plane+bus)
Thrace                  / 2-3 August:    Edirne, Kırklareli, Lüleburgaz (bus only)
Black Sea                            / 4-7 August:    Samsun-Giresun-Ordu

If the election goes to a second round we will organise a further trip to the key Kurdish-majority constituencies:

Southeast Turkey           / 18-22 August:               Diyarbakır, Mardin, Batman, Siirt

Who is eligible?

The trip is open to all bona fide journalists irrespective of the media in which they work. Foreign journalists and free lancers are welcome to apply. Those working for organisations and are able to pay their own way, are expected to do so. However, those who do not have an institution behind them can travel as guests of P24. Where possible participating journalists should make their copy or photos available for reproduction on the P24 or T24 website.

Special consideration will go to journalists who have lost their jobs in the mainstream Turkish press. And the sooner you apply, the better your chances.
