In Search of the Lost Media: Interviews 2012-2018 compiles Hazal Özvarış’s interviews, most of which were published on the online news website T24 between 2012 and 2018.

In Search of the Lost Media: Interviews 2012-2018 is a book reflecting a specific period in Turkey’s recent history, as says Doğan Akın, the founder and editor-in-chief of T24, in a foreword to the book titled “The benefits of doubting: Looking behind of what is put in front of us.” While noting that the practice of journalism in Turkey has “always been problematic,” Doğan says the profession that once was subject to “the intervention of political, bureaucratic, economic pressure groups” and performed under “the restrictions of ideological conditioning” is being redefined, which leads to the construction of a “new media architecture.” In Search of the Lost Media is an attempt to depict a three-dimensional photograph of the media, Akın says, adding: “If journalism is a profession cursed with ‘disturbing’ people, Hazal Özvarış does her work with such courage, preparation, and ability that does not shy away from that curse.”

In her introduction to the book “Interviewing: How to Make It,” Hazal Özvarış sheds light on how she prepares her interviews, the circumstances under which she carries them out, and at what cost those are published. For Özvarış, all the interviews compiled in the book are the product of a shared wisdom. “The sum of the interviews signals how political pressure increasingly got more robust, and the space allowed for journalism narrowed,” she says.

In Search of the Lost Media includes interviews with Mehmet Altan, Cengiz Çandar, Osman Ulagay, Yusuf Kaplan, Mümtaz’er Türköne, Başar Arslan, Hasan Karakaya, Metin Münir, Orhan Bursalı, Mehmet Betil, Hasan Pulur, Hakkı Devrim, Mustafa Kurdaş, Kürşat Bumin, Mustafa Mutlu, Alper Görmüş, İsmet Berkan, Tuğrul Eryılmaz, Eyüp Can, Cemal Uşşak, Oktay Ekşi, Nazlı Ilıcak, Doğan Ertuğrul, Fatih Altaylı, Avni Özgürel, Faruk Köse, Murat Belge, Etyen Mahçupyan and Hidayet Şefkatli Tuksal.
